Back With A Vengance

Lots of good stuff was posted this week. Too much to fit into my mix so I have a few bonus downloads for you. I also have a few added bonus tracks related to songs in the mix. In short it's my best post ever!!! But it has to tide you over for 2 weeks because I am again going away next weekend. Wild and Wonderful West Virginia will bring me some drinking, rafting, drinking and hanging out.

I'm also switching from the wretched hosting I used last week to Savefile for the mix. I will keep the Yousendit links too, it is a better site, but to download large files like the mix you need to register (free!). The individual mp3s will still be on yousendit and you should be able to download those with no registration.

I don't want this to become I space where I write about all my activities to bore you to death but I must say a few sentences about Burning Man. You gotta see it. It's weird by day when the hippies are out, but when the ravers take over at night it is crazy surreal. I can't really describe it in words but some of the installations and entertainment was great. The living conditions are harsh at times but it really is like nothing I've seen before. And the music is crazy. I danced like a madman at times to some nice techno, trance, and whateverothershittygenrenameyougot. Kind of like partying on another country on another planet.

Somehow this old video for CJ Bolland's "Sugar is Sweeter" captures a small piece of the sound, feel, and look of the whole experience. Try to imagine it while 90% of those around you are rolling out of their mind:

And now some good cuts that didn't make the cut:

Speak Low - Thriller (Michael Jackson cover)
Download it from Best Foot Forward

So you want a funk cover of MJ that gets by on more than novelty? Check this out. If this had been the version they made the video for it would have been an awesome blaxploitation werewolf zombie extravaganza with a car chase. Shut yo mouth.

Tool - H.
Download it from Rewriteable Content

One of my very favorite Tool songs from Ænima. If you don't like ya some Tool, that's your perogative, but I hate you.

Luna - Bonnie and Clyde
Download it from Aquarium Drunkard

Luna works some backwards guitar solo magic covering Serge Gainsbourg.

ioeo - Peruvian Girl
Download it from Indiesh.com

Sounds sort of like Moon Safari-era Air.

Download this week's mix HERE (no reg.) or HERE (yousendit free reg. required).

Tracklist:

Talking Heads - Once in A Lifetime
Download it from Jefitoblog

Nothing new here. Just an awesome Talking Heads classic to kick off the festivities. I once did a horrible drunken dance/pantomime of this song at a collge party. It should have embarrassed me but I think it emboldened me to try stupider things to attract attention in the hours and days to come.

The Presets - Girl and the Sea
Download it from Pound for Pound

Pound for Pound introduces me to the Presets. I'm glad people are making music like this and I still find new stuff like it every once in a while. Sounds kinda new wave but with some modern shit in there to keep ya from feeling too out of touch.

Biosphere - Som Evige Stjerner
Download it from Swens Blog

Just a short little 1.5 minute interlude from ambient master Biosphere. The link mentions his true masterpiece , Substrata, a must get for anyone interested in ambient music. I think the Universe's creator spoke to me through that album the first time I heard it all the way through. Being fucked up out of mind didn't hurt either. It has no beats anywhere near as hard as the one that takes over this track for about 30 secs but its smooth and taught me everything I needed to know about the true nature of reality. We are all interconnected nothingness, purely intellectual constructs created as part of the process of an intellegence trying to answer an unanswerable question. So get drunk.

Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back to Your House
Download it from Just Like Music.

New Basement Jaxx. Sounds like any other Basement Jaxx song. But with a banjo. The bouncy beat betrays the desperation of the lyrics, but who cares about lyrics. Bounce along to it.

Silversun Pickups - Little Lover's so Polite
Download it from Mainstream Isn't So Bad...Is It?

Heard a bit about these guys recently. I don't listen to much stuff like it anymore, but I like it and I want to hear more. I kinda get the Smashing Pumpkins references, but not really. Sounds like some stuff of that era though. They are touring small venues and coming to such PodcastRx readership hotspots as Arlington, VA and Urbana, IL so go check em out and get back to me.

The Busy Signals- I'm So Slippery
Download it from Sugartown

Busy Sigs are back and Sugartown has got some tracks. Awesome.

This below Bonus Track is not in the mix but is a pretty sweet track.
Bonus Track: Headphone World by the Busy Signals from Pure Energy

The Amps - Pacer
Download it from BadmitonStamps

Kim Deal spent her time between Breeders incarnations in the Amps. Don't worry Kelly, I'd be all loopy on the smack too if my sister was so talented. I feel for ya.

Junior Boys - Under The Sun
Download it from The Music Slut

While everyone else is (deservedly) going nuts over their new single "In the Morning", The Music Slut steps back and shows us the wonder of "Under the Sun" off of Last Exit. This song always gave me musical blue balls, threatening to fly off into spacey bliss but then returning to the driving beat. And while i'd like to go flying off into otherworldly ecstasy the anticipation and frustration of the blue balls experience is a real character builder.

The below bonus track does not give you the musical blue balls. It just starts to massage your shoulders, slides its hands into your pants, rips your dick right off , runs it through a shredder and feeds it into your ears. Then it start the whole thing all over again (I guess you grew a new one in the meantime). Then it apologizes and leaves gracefully while you bleed to death.
