Videos, Ladies, Beef Jerky

7 songs. 5 female vocalists. 1 robot vocalist. 1 asexual vocalist. A few videos because I am addicted to youTube. I'm keepin it short and sweet.

Mp3 of the mix is HERE.

Tracklist:

Cibo Matto - Beef Jerky
Download it from Looking At Them

How could anyone not love this song? It rules. Let's eat carrots together. The video is not for this song. But it is probably my favorite video of all time. Cibo Matto's Sugar Water video:

Stereolab - Margarine Melodie
Download it from MusicIsArt

Stereolab songs sound like Stereolab songs. You never listen to Stereolab and think "Wow, this sounds like Korn." Or vice-versa. MusicIsArt makes it in back-to-back weeks. The post also has a fantastic Modest Mouse tune.

Solvent - My Radio
Download it from FUNTIME OK

I didn't like this much when it started but by the end the robot vocals won me over.

Whale - Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe
Download it from Act Up

Sure the song is silly, but this takes me back to the mid 90s. A time of peace, love and hobo humpin. I'm done with that now. The video has a few too many half-naked men for my taste. But just a few. Enjoy:

Asobi Seksu - Lions and Tigers
Download it from Good Hodgkins

Can't add much that the original post didn't say. Read that.

The Smiths - There is a Light That Never Goes Out
Download it from My Old Kentucky Blog

Classic Smiths. I don't know why I wasn't listening to this when I was a teenager and could fully appreciate the drama. I had never seen this video until today:

Björk - All is Full of Love
Download it from Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good

I had an internal struggle whether to end the mix with this or The Smiths.
Björk wins. But both the last 2 love songs are fantastic. The Chris Cunningham video is wonderful as well:

Devolution #9

Another week, another post on Sunday. I should probably just say I'll put them out on Sunday, but then you know I won't put them out until Monday.

This week the software was acting up. It slowed down 2 of the songs the first time I tried to mix them. I only noticed because 1) The mix was a few minutes longer than I intended and 2) The songs in question sounded less cool than I remembered. It's fixed now and as cool as it is supposed to be.

Music is HERE.

Tracklist:

Primal Scream - When the Bomb Drops
Download from Loudersoft

Primal Scream is back. And better than last time anway. Good enough. Loud and guitary

Thievery Corporation - Angels (f/ Norah Jones)
Download from Indieblogheaven

So are these DC headbobbers. Downtempo and pretentious. They talk in french or some shit. Quit listening to the words.

Modest Mouse - Never Ending Math Equation
Download from The DIY Rockstar

Rock! Modest Mouse becomes the latest worthy repeat guest on the mix. One of my favorites from them.

Prefuse 73 - Perverted Undertone
Download from Musicisart

Instrumental hip-hop/someotherretardedgenre. This song sounds a lot sleepier slowed down to about 2/3 speed. Why God carefully planned for me to experience it that way I'll never know.

Spoon - I turn My Camera On (John McEntire Remix)
Download from Me

Johnny Mac keeps the original beat and adds on some ohs and ahs and other stuff. Ah.

Antarctica - Return to Omma Dawn
Download from Stypod

Stypod compares it to early Underworld. That's high praise to me, it definitely sounds from another era and I definitely like it.

Starflyer 59 - Indiana
Dowload from chinese restaurant in the forest

Slow Noizy Geee-tar. Ratio of radio play for John Kooger Mellencamp to Starflyer 59 in the titular state: 1.87e17 to 1. Had to cut the end short because there's some skips in there. Unless that's the production, in which case it would be shitty production.

Late Again?

Yes, again I am 1 day late.

Tip of the Week: Don't have margaritas at lunch if you want stuff to get done later.

Tip of the Week #2: Don't count on me if promptness is important.

This week was weird. I liked a lot of songs posted but had a hard time fitting them into a coherent mix. Life is better incoherent anway. Enjoy.

Download the mix HERE.

Tracklist:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y-Control
Download from Skatterbrain

I like this one a large amount. And Maps too. Unfortunately Skatterbrain says thats all they got that's worth it. I think I heard some other stuff that didn't really get me going so I'm in Skatterbrain's camp until proven otherwise.

The Arcade Fire - Wake Up
Download from Awesome Until Proven Guilty.

Several Acrade Fire songs were posted this week. This one is nice and driving though. (I have to interrupt myself here and say that typing is getting really annoying because the blogcrap software keeps inserting random line breaks into my wonderful prose.) I assume at some point they will have a new album. It'll probably be a disappointment. When was the last highly anticipated album that lived up to the hype?

Ivy - Streets of Your Town
Download from Chromewaves.net

Breezy and soft. Just like my jumper. Or my ass.

Feist - Mushaboom (Postal Service Remix)
Download from The Laws Have Changed.

Truthfully, I like the regular version better. But this weeks mix was light on remixes/weirdo-shit and there are approximately 427,000 remixes of this song out there. Most of them are pretty bad, but this one adds a little something different. Postal Service apparently also remixes 20 times more songs than they themselves produce. I don't know how Ben has time to do them and still pose for magazine cover photos that make me want to punch each Death Cab member in the face.

LTJ Bukem - Horizons (Edit)
Download from The Daily Growl

Remember this? Back when jungle was the next big thing. I like everything this short edit brings except the little diva wails. I never really got into LTJ but the British dance press was drooling nonstop.

Outkast - ATLiens
Download from Think Tank.

Old school Outkast for ya. I like sayin "Oh Yeah-err" more than just about anything.

Hot Chip - Sexual Chocolate
Download from Pocket|Trax

I hope I'm not overdoing the Hot Chip but God Damn are they good. This is off their Down With Prince EP which pay tribute to/mocks the purple one. The guitar solo would make the Ween bros shed a tear. I want to get drunk and sing this all night.

Best of the Week, today and forever

This post is 1 day late. Sorry.

All songs this week were downloaded during the previous week. So I have linked the pages I got them from so you can get the individual mp3s from there. This way you can check out the sweet ass sites that posted the songs too. This will be the way it is here from now on. If I do include a song not posted in the last week, I will post it up myself for individual download.

The mp3 of my mix can be downloaded HERE. It's got music. It's got comedy. It's like you, if you were funny and had any taste in music.

The tracklist is here:

Mos Def - Umi Says (Zero 7 Mix)
Download it from Palms Out Sounds.

I like this. A lot. Mos Def brings it likes his Umi says and Zero 7 chills out, smokes a doob, and adds some swirly squiggles. Palms Out's remix sunday posts are always good.

Quiet Village Project - Pillow Talk
Download it from polloxniner.

This song has been called space disco. Sounds all chill and spacey and 70s-y. You burn-outs will love it.

Luna - 23 minutes in Brussels
Download it from Aquarium Drunkard.

Luna was much better than you could ever even dream about being. You pathetic loser. They amble along and start rockin just enough to get the feet tapping. Then they let the guitars softly take us out into...

Radiohead - Meeting in the aisle
Download it from to die by your side.

This instrumental Radiohead B-side keeps things floating along. While listening you let down your guard and begin to relax just a bit. Big Mistake. Now I am making love to your wife and stealing your stereo. You dumbfuck.

Q and Not U - 10,000 Animal Songs
Download it from All Things Go.

Q and not U are dead. Well, they are no longer a band anyway. But their songs can still rock you for a few glorious moments until you return to your monotonous horrible life.

Todd Snider - Beer Run (live)
Download it from The Late Greats.

This tune from an excellent post on The Late Greats is the type of jokey story telling song my dad loves. But he's not here. So I guess I put it on to transition into the straight up comedy of...

Bill Hicks - I'm Jack the Ripper
Download it from Words and Music.

Bill Hicks is also dead. And, like, dead for real. That sucks. He tends to curse so don't play this for your grandma.
