Sweet Sounds

I am enjoying the hell out of this summer. Here's a few sweet sounds that are making it possible. Also check out this post from the prolific Kwaya Na Kisser for an old Beck song that takes me back to hangin out in Bob's basement half a lifetime ago. Good times.

MP3 link of the 1/2 hour mix is HERE. (I mislabeled its ID3 tags, damn)

Tracklist:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Turn Into (Nick Zinner Remix)
Download from Awesome Until Proven Guilty

Bouncy. YYY may not just be a 2 trick pony in my mind after all.

The Foundry Field Recordings - holding the pilots/holding the facts
Download from Kinky Origami

To me, the guitar sounds like New Order, and then the chorus it becomes Velocity Girl's "Sorry Again". Weird thing to do in my opinion. Still good.

Junior Boys - In the Morning
Download from KRLX Music Blog

I'm in love with this song. It sticks in my head for days at a time. Their last (first) album was a bit of a disappointment to me. But if this is an indication of the new stuff, please bring it on.

Slag Boom Van Loon - Poppy Seed (Boards of Canada Remix)
Download from FoeWeel!!!???

Slag Boom Van Loon is Speedy J and ยต-Ziq. But this remix sounds like a Boards of Canada song to me so I give them 80% of the props. Pretty and eerie. Like a BoC song. See.

Inouk - Elected
Download from songs:illinois

Doesn't really sound summery, but I don't remember ever hearing it before and I liked it.

Brightblack Morning Light - Everybody Daylight
Download from Black Ballon

Reviews say they are influenced by country/folk but this sounds almost like trip-hop beathead chillout to me. Smoke em if ya got em.

No Frills...

Just poor mixin' skillz. I'm between mini-vacations now so I made a fairly uptempo party mix almost an hour long. No whiny indie rock or slow majestic orchestral rock this week. No links to individual songs either. It'll have to tide you over for another 10 days or so. This mix is the reason nobody asks me to DJ their party. Some played out shit, some ultra cheesey dance, but I love it all.

In parentheses I added the approx start time for each track.

Download the mix HERE.

Tracklist:

Peaches - Fuck The Pain Away (0:00)
Awesome.

Len - Steal My Sunshine (ultimix) (4:08)
Very played out and it still makes me happy. I don't have the original, but this "ultimix" doesn't add too many horrible noises to it.

DJ Rap - Bad Girl (BT Mix) (8:00)
I hate her name, what happened to her? My shitty mixing skills really blow this transition.

Annie - The Greatest Hit (13:29)
Bent - Magic Love (16:45)
The above 2 songs were next to each other on the Bent FabricLive 11 CD, so I kept em together.

Freefall w/ Jan Johnston - Skydive (20:46)
Cheesey and awesome.

Mylo - In My Arms (Rx Edit) (26:40)
I like the sample of Bette Davis Eyes but I hated a part in the middle so I tried to fix it with my crap editing skills. I think it is slightly better, but I am also in love with myself

Daft Punk - Da Funk (30:10)
The best.

The Juan Maclean - Shining Skinned Friend (35:30)
Kraftwerkian

Hot Chip - Just Like We Breakdown(DFA Mix) (39:54)
Hot Chip will break your legs.

Mike Ink - Paroles (45:12)
From Warp's Blechsdottir comp

DJ Shadow - High Noon (50:40)
Wow, what a horrible transition I made here, if I wasn't leaving soon I'd at least try to fix that, but whats done is done. Done.

Mo' Videos, Mo' Ladies, Mo' Robots.

Title says it all. MusicIsArt is inducted into the Rx SuperBlog Pantheon. I ain't posting the Thom Yorke stuff. Go to Hype Machine (see the sidebar) for that. I've ridden Radiohead's jock hard enough. They can ride mine for a bit.

The mp3 mix is HERE.

Tracklist:

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Download it from clever titles are so last summer

Those wacky bastards at Pitchfork gave Loveless the title of #1 album of the 90's. I don't know about all that but it did get me to buy it like a good little sheep. I want to some house party in DC years ago where the DJ was playing a lot of MBV and Godspeed You Black Emperor and some drunk girl came up and was going through his records and trying to mess with his shit while yelling at him to play Madonna. I felt bad for him for a second but he was a dick and appeared to be tripping hard. Great times.

Goldfrapp - Number 1
Download it from MusicIsArt

Ahhhh. So that's what all this Goldfrapp love is about. I get it now.

Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
Download it from Mountain.To.Sound

No. Not Clint Eastwood. Dirty Harry. Yeah Gorillaz is played out. So what? It still sounds good.

The Breeders - Saints
Download it from sugartown

I think I mentioned this song indirectly back when I put Divine Hammer in the mix. Song about the fairs and festivals of summer. Summer is readyyyyyyy when you are.

Shit Robot - Triumph
Download it from Pound For Pound

The first of two 7+ minute songs in the mix. The new DFA genius Shit Robot is in the house. I'm expecting great things.

The Flaming Lips - What is the Light?
Download it from Looking at Them

Awesome song from The Soft Bulletin. Makes me happy.

Laika - Breather
Download it from MusicIsArt

Second 7+ minute song. From the same MusicIsArt post as Goldfrapp. Also has the excellent DFA remix of Hot Chip. And Radiohead, Go to that post now. Download and buy everything. I apparently have a crush on MusicIsArt. Love is a bitch.
